I recently shot Julian for 4 hours- digital, medium format, and super 8. The photos are being released for MUSICMUSICMUSIC and will be later distributed at The Tate Modern, MoMA, Colette, Opening Ceremony - and other great places. It is a really large scale magazine printed in Japan- 3 different photo types. It will also feature model Jessica Stam. loveinliverpool asked: Hi! Thanks for following. It's so amazing that you got to shoot Julian. When/How did you start photography? Thanks for the kind words. It took awhile to get the shoot with Julian all put together but it was worth it. I got put in touch with him with Strokes producer David Kahne- who is one of the most brilliant minds I have had the pleasure of meeting. The photos currently on the blog are just candid moments from the shoot- the ones getting published are pretty sick. I shot him with a really beautiful bird in mid flight. He was a pleasure to shoot. I started shooting when I moved to New York. My advice to anyone looking to shoot is move to this city. Everything is concentrated- and you never know who you are going to end up shooting. I started gaining more momentum when I did a collaboration with the iconic Mick Rock- who has shot all the greats- BOWIE, BLONDIE, JAGGER etc As fun as it is to shoot fashion- I feel like shooting musicians is the most honest in many ways. Because they are coming as themselves- it is your job to capture a pure essence instead of an exaggerated one. With that said I enjoy shooting fashion because fashion never reaches an apex. There is always something exciting coming out, or another fresh girl. It challenges me in a different way. XX J
